TOWN PLANNING BODY SEEKS WAYS FOR UNIJOS URP STUDENTS TO REGISTER AS PROFESSIONAL TOWN PLANNERS

As part of efforts to properly manage land resources through Urban and Regional Planning, the National Institute of Town Planners has advised Tertiary institutions in the Country to ensure that Students undertaking the programme are qualified to be registered as professional members of the Institute after graduation.

National Executives of the Institute led by the National President, Lekwa Ezutah embarked on a nationwide tour to encourage organizations and institutions offering Urban and Regional Planning programmes and services to comply with the extant requirements for practicing the profession.

The delegation was at the University of Jos where they paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Seddi Sebastian Maimako in his office.

Mr Ezutah encouraged the University authorities to secure professional accreditation from the Institute in order to produce Graduates that properly registered Town Planners conversant with operations of the profession. He stressed need for final year Students of the Urban and Regional Planning Programme to enroll for the Institute's Mandatary Professional Examination (MCPDP).

Responding, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos, Professor Seddi Sebastian Maimako who was represented by the Dean, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Professor Daniel Dabi assured that the University will try its best to address all observations made by the Institute.

Professor Dabi restated the University’s commitment towards ensuring that it produces thoroughbred professionals that are experts in their various fields of study to provide solutions to societal problems.
